Type of Abstract (select): Paper presentation

Abstract (max. 250 words):
The present sociolinguistic research examines the language socialization strategies of Hungarian parents living abroad in Europe, in terms of language choice, access to cultural resources, and the construction of identity structures. The research is based on online questionnaire survey of 471 family members’ language use from 128 participant families.

The aim of the study is to explore the family language polices, socialization strategies and identity formation in multilingual families living in Hungarian diaspora, outside of the Carpathian Basin; and besides presenting alternatives for other families to help them to create their own family language policy.
