Brothers-in-arms: Hungarian heroes who fought for Uncle Sam

The presentation entails the selected display of rather neglected yet outstandingly important military heroes and leaders with Hungarian descendancy, who served within various military branches of the US armed forces ever since the War of Independence up until the Persian Gulf wars. The extensive list contains much revered military personalities, most notably among them colonel Mihály Kováts de Fabriczy, the first training officer of the American cavalry and hero of the battle of Charleston; brigadier general and military engineer Alexander Asbóth; general George Pomutz, the diplomatic envoy and broker of Alaska for the US in Sankt Petersburg; colonel Charles Zágonyi, the crazy Hungarian housar; lieutenant Joseph Pulitzer, the leading financial contributor to the Statue of Liberty in New York City; brigadier general Huba Wass de Czegey, the air-land battle strategist of the Persian Gulf war of 1991, or more recently major Christina Szász, the first and only Hungarian American female pilot of an F-117 stealth fighter jet. The presentation is based on lengthy research and a bilingual paper published on the findings elaborated by the author.

Zsolt Csutak, PhD is an externally affiliated researcher at University of Public Service-Ludovika, Budapest, focusing primarily on American intellectual and political issues. In the center of his academic interests one may find disciplines like: international relations, transatlantic security studies, American intellectual history. He is also keen on examining the various effects and interactions of postmodern secular, progressive ideas, trends and traditional religious political entities within the Western civilizational sphere. Within his secondary research area, Zsolt tends to focus on analysing the new types of technology-based cyber challenges. He graduated from the University of Szeged, majoring in American and European Studies as well as in Political Theory. He gained his PhD from international security studies at Ludovika University.
